It is not true that everyone wants to do scrambler, with road tires, there is someone who still loves and prefers to turn the bikes in small and stylish cafe racer....
1.1 BACKGROUND
After
Diamond Atelier’s launch into the custom motorcycle world, the duo received worldwide recognition for their work, especially on their outside;the;norm BMW builds. The two Boxer Airheads settled the
urban signature style of the young Munich brand and also created a new niche in the over saturatedcustom scene.
Part of this scene was the current trend of transforming road bikes into so;called “Scramblers”. Tom and Pablo quickly grew tired of seeing the same models over and over again and thus decided to do to complete opposite– to transform a typical 90’s dirt bike into a full;blown Diamond Atelier café racer.
1.2 THEME The focus on this build was to show the creativity, dedication and skill that is poured into every DA project. Therefore a Suzuki DR650 was the perfect donor –it was the bike furthest away from what the two founders consider good looking. But with its high capacity single hammer engine, it had great potential. Diamond Atelier feared no effort to redesign the complete chassis of the DR650$ n order to receive the desired stance. This includes a heavily modified main frame and completely hand;built rear frame, as well as a full custom suspension set up and a rare set of racing wheels. To add to the agile and perfectly sleek silhouette the bik needs to cut through downtown city traffic, a front mask and seat cowling were hand built to match the vintage 70’s gas tank. Low slung clip;ons and CNC machined rear sets came from ABM and provide an aggressive seating position for the driver. The DA#5 remains Diamond Atelier’s most advanced custom bike project to this day and is meant to show that the bar on such transformations still can be raise.
